A report can declare a number of fields. Fields represent named objects that are
obtained from the data source at the moment of report execution. A field declaration
provides all the necessary information required by the report engine to extract the
value. Once declared, they can be referred to in expressions using a dedicated syntax.
JasperAssistant groups these declarations under a single
Outline View. New fields can be added by using the context
menu associated to this node.
Name of the field as it is used to refer to the field throughout the report. The name usually represents all the information needed to extract the value of the field.
A short text description for the field. For some data sources this property can be required to contain some extra information needed to extract the value of the field.
Class of the field values.
